(Hawaii - Kamehameha III & C. Brewer & Co.). Royal Patent No. 789. Contemporary certified copy of a transaction with Charles Brewer relative to a Fort Street lot, 1½pp, 12½x8", Honolulu, 15 June, 1852. Document contains a detailed description of the location of the lot and includes a blind stamp showing "Capitol Building & Congress." Secretarial signatures for Kamehameha III and Keoni Ana. Keoni Ana (John Young II) was the son of John Young and the chiefess Kaonaeha. He succeeded Kekauluoki as Prime Minister (1845-54) and also served at various times as governor of Maui, Minister of the Interior and as a justice of the Supreme Court. Charles Brewer (1804-85) descended from a Brahmin Boston family with roots back to the Mayflower. He founded C. Brewer & Co., Ltd., the oldest surviving company in Hawaii and one of The Big Five that controlled Hawaii's economy unti the 1950s.
