Washington Memorial Proof Portrait by P. Roberts. A wonderful 9x11¾" stipple and etching proof titled "George Washington Late President of the United States of America." With a dedication "…to the friends of the Above Gentleman, by their Most obedient humble Serv.t / P. Roberts / London. Published…April 10, 1800…At Mr. Holland's…" Conserved, with losses to the dedication at the base; laid to acid-free paper. "Proof" is print in far right corner. The bust, which was engraved by Roberts from a painting by "W. Birch of Carolina" and engraved by Roberts, was based on Holloway's print of the Vaughan portrait. Hart 274.
