Lot 413

Eden, Anthony (1897-1977) British Foreigh Secretary (1935-38, 40-45, 51-55) and Prime Minister (1955-57); Eden was forced to resign as Prime Minister after Britain's attempt (along with France, and Israel) to regain international control of the Suez Canal became a foreign policy debacle. Typed Letter Signed ("Anthony") on personal letterhead, with holograph additions, 1 p, 10x8", Pewsey, Wiltshire, 11 July 1961. Very fine. To Lord Beaverbrook, in part: "…the world scene darkens remorselessly. We shall no doubt see a line up of Nasser with Kassem against Kuwait, the Saudis and any other still weaker Arab allies the Sheikh of Kuwait may be able to muster. Nasser has an unerring nose for the cash and is out for a share of Kuwait by some smooth trickery. H.M.G. will have to get up very early if they are to fend him off…."
Estimated Value $250 - 350.
