Darrow, Clarence (1857 – 1938) American lawyer, best known for defending John T. Scopes in the "Monkey" Trial (1925), which tested the teaching of evolution in state-funded educational establishments. Book Inscribed and Signed, "To W H Stout Esq / With the regards of Clarence Darrow / April 29 - 1913," on the first endpage; Stout's bookplate is on the inside cover. The book is Farmington (Chicago: A.C. McClurg & Co., 1904), 277 pp, 8x5¼". Green cloth cover with gold-stamping. Some discoloration along spine, else a good, tight copy. Estimated Value $600 - 800.
