Intriguing Janiform Head out of Africa. Ghana, likely Akan, c. 19th-20th century. The vessel-like sculpture in coarse reddish clay, fairly high-fired. The twin heads perhaps that of a woman, with small chin and delicate features. With two rows of scarification high up on the head. Intact with cleanable dirt. Height: 10-3/4". A good display piece, with each face just enough different from the other, that the portraits could be changed to suit one's mood.
