Lot 3919

Netherlands - Utrecht. 14 Gulden (Rider), 1750. Fr-288. Armoured figure, seated on galloping horse, holding a sword upright. Reverse: Crowned shield of arms. A lovely specimen with a light golden tone and prooflike background - so difficult to find in top grade now. NGC graded AU-58.

**On the death of Stadtholder William III the stadtholderate was suspended and the States-General resumed control of the government. But in 1747 the republican party lost power and William IV, of Orange, became hereditary statdholder. In the 18th century the relative commercial, military and cultural positions of the United Provinces in Europe declined, as those of England and France ascended. The Netherlands sided against England in the American Revolution and as a result lost several colonies at the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,500.
