Charioteer driving fast quadriga left, while above, Nike flies right to crown charioteer; below heavy exergual line, a military harness, shield, greaves, cuirass, and Attic helmet, all connected by a horizontal spear. Reverse: Wreathed head of Arethusa left, wearing triple-pendant earring and necklace; surrounded by four swimming dolphins; ethnic above right, [EY-A]INE below lower dolphin. SNG ANS 365, 366 (same obverse die = Gallitain O.IV); Dewing 887 (same obverse); Hill, Ward Coll. (Metropolitan Museum, NY), no. 295 (same obverse). Boldly stuck, with impressive high relief modelling to both sides. The obverse die showing wear, plus a crack, but re-engraved, giving the horses, Nike, and the armor vivid detailing. Reverse fresh and crisp. Toned, and free of the ever present die rust. An especially handsome example of this historical masterwork! Extremely Fine.
