1895 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 62. Nice untoned example. This ever so sharply made example displays uniform reflectivity as the surfaces rotate under the light. The strike is typically bold for the key 1895 Proof with hair curls over Liberty's ear that are fully distinct. While silvery color shines through the otherwise medium brilliance of the scheme, these are features that explain why grade-limiting hairlines are only partially evident at most angles. Reports have it that the Philadelphia Mint delivered 12,000 business strike Silver Dollars in 1895, plus 880 Proofs (the latter were included with the six-coin Proof sets sold to collectors). However, no Mint State or worn "circulation strike" coins have ever been positively identified. Either all 12,000 were melted, or the Treasury Department's ledger book recorded a surplus of 1894-dated pieces instead that were not recorded in the ledger until June 1895. Regardless, we can say for certain that Morgan Dollar fanciers will have to eventually find an acceptable Proof such as the present '62' quality survivor if they want to complete their Morgan dollar sets. 880 coins minted. Pop 73; 164 finer. (PCGS # 7330) .
Estimated Value $32,000 - 35,000.

Realized $39,100
