Lot 3191

1894 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded Proof 67 Cameo. Lovely untoned gem. A popular date. Only 972 proofs struck. After several years of producing bluntly struck proofs, the mint got back on track in 1894 and struck sharp proof impressions. These coins are semi-keys in the series, demanded by most collectors, but only available to a few due to the absence of offerings at the high end. Not only because of their sharp detail but also because of the lack of high grade business strike Dollars, this particular specimen should easily draw a large number of bids.

The coin has sparkling, brilliant fields throughout with no distracting impairments on either side, as would be expected of the Proof 67 near-perfect grade. The fields are deeply mirrored while by way of contrast there is a significant amount of mint frost over the devices to create a healthy cameo effect. Both sides are virtually white in color without toning. Even the tiniest hair strand and breast feather shows powerfully within the design elements, surrounded by the deeply mirrored fields of what we can only emphasize once more as a truly impressed Morgan. A coin suggestive of an even higher grade assessment. Pop 23; 7 finer; 1 in 67; 2 in 68; 2 in 68 Star; 2 in 69 Star. (PCGS # 7329) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.
