Lot 2312

1907 $20 St. Gaudens. High relief, wire rim. PCGS graded MS-63. Frosty. The satiny yellow-gold surfaces reveal traces of greenish patina in the fields that are fairly free of marks and hairlines. Only some stacking evidence on Liberty's knee and a few marks on the figure itself confine the grade. Although the grading holder limits the visual range, the edge on these coins is also impressive. E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in raised letters interspersed with stars from a three-segment collar that was used to confine the planchet in the press during coinage operations. The high relief Type of Saint -Gaudens' beautiful design is perhaps the single most significant 20th century gold issue of this or another other country (PCGS # 9135) .
Estimated Value $20,000 - 22,000.
