Lot 1822

1898 $2.50 Liberty. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. Light golden toning. A coin with a rich background in the late 19th century when America was flexing its Imperial muscles, and a dignified tribute to Mint technology and artistry of the period. The strike details are immediately noticeable as razor-sharp. From the stars to the hair curls, the coronet to the eagle with its overlapping shield, everything is bold. The devices on this piece are nice and cameo frosted. Against the mirror field, they rise forth in Imperial splendor. The grade of Proof 66 says a lot about the coins overall aesthetic beauty, which is considerable! A rare gold Proof for the specialist. Only 165 proofs minted. Pop 9; 6 finer; 5 in 67; 1 in 68.
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.
