Lot 1714

1857-D $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-61. Nice golden toning. In 1857, the Dahlonega Mint delivered very few Gold Dollars. Survivors are scarce as hen's teen in all grades, as they probably number on the order of 120-130 coins (per Doug Winter, 2003). Most often seen in Very Fine or Extremely Fine grades, this date becomes more elusive in Mint condition by at least an order of magnitude, and can be said to be downright rare. One of several highlights of our extensive C and D gold in the sale, this toned MS61 example blends light green-gold and orange-gold colors as the surfaces throw up luster-filled light into the observer's eye. 3,533 coins minted. Pop 6; 6 finer in 62. (PCGS # 7546) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 11,000.
