Lot 1656

1851-D $1 Gold Liberty. NGC graded MS-62. Untoned. The centers and peripheral areas are all mellow yellow-gold oscillating with deeper tawny color. A diminished impression was left by the recoil of the (possibly worn) dies that struck this, although the main portraiture is excellent. One small mark by the star at the 3 o'clock position of the obverse. Scarce in Mint condition. We expect a great deal of enthusiasm from bidders for these outstanding C and D mint rarities. The whole sale is peppered with them, gold dollars to half eagles, and a range of dates from the 1830s to the 1860s, almost exclusively in higher grades like this attractive 1851-D gold dollar. Only 9,882 coins minted. Pop 25; 10 finer.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 7,500.

Realized $7,820
