Lot 1556

1906 Barber Quarter Dollar. NGC graded Proof 67. Gorgeous deep blue and rose midnight toning. 675 proofs minted. From one end to the other the intense mirror reflection in the luster gyrates with almost mesmerizing intensity. Devices foursquare and bold throughout as expected for a top-end Proof this year. Pop 25; 8 finer; 1 in 67 Star; 7 in 68.

The year 2006 marks the 100th anniversary of this Barber quarter Proof, and is also 100 years on since the city of San Francisco was shaken by a great earthquake. The 1906 baseball's World Series was the first to feature two teams from the same city, "the windy city" that is. Chicago was split in two as the American League's (South Side) White Sox competed against the National League (West Side) Cubs.
Estimated Value $3,200 - 3,500.
The Greenhill Collection.

Realized $3,565
