The medal, meant to highlight the unique character of Alaska's natural beauty, is crafted in three color gold, red, yellow and green, and portrays a log cabin and a well head nestled before a thickly forested landscape beneath craggy peaks at sunrise and sunset. Below is the word Alaska. The design is identical on both sides except for changes in the coloring of the design details, which are boldly modeled and set within an intricate rope-like border.
