1899, $5 Silver Certificate. PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ. . Fr-271. . KL-241. Simply superb! As nice an Indian Chief note as any we've handled in recent sales, and we have handled some pretty high Chiefs. The centering of both sides is precision perfect, while the margins are nothing less than marvelous in their balanced look all the way around. The original blue overprint or "embossing" is vibrant enough to draw wide-eyed stares of amazement while the basic black and green print fresh as can be, virtual perfection. It's quite a lesson to everyone that few such notes have passed through PCGS's grading establishment, but this is a note that can snap even the most world-weary currency specialist upright in his seat. Pop 7; none finer.
