Lot 3896

1914-D $5 Indian. PCGS graded MS-64. Well struck with rich golden toning. A beauty, with nice original copper gold color on very choice, undisturbed surfaces free of copper spots or intrusive marks. A smoothed rather than sharp impression was left by the pressure of the dies that struck this at centers, with some marginal weakness in the ends of the four lower feathers on the Indian. Denver Mint in 1914 seems to have made its quarter eagles and half eagles with about the same resolution from the dies, while the Philadelphia Mint's coinage is similar on the soft side when compared to either 1913 or 1915 issues. Pop 204; 12 in 65; 2 in 66. (PCGS # 8528) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500.

Realized $6,325
