1912 $5 Indian. PCGS graded MS-62. A hint of light gold tone. Satiny orange gold surfaces with some expressive marks and hairlines on the high points limiting the grade. A pleasing choice Uncirculated example of one of the most popular two and one-half dollar gold issues in American numismatics. 1912 is the year the Titanic sank and Theodore Roosevelt was shot in an assassination attempt. In 1912, angered over what he felt was the betrayal of his policies by his hand-picked successor, President William Howard Taft, former president Theodore Roosevelt sought the Republican nomination. When the party chose Taft and Vice President James Sherman at the convention, Roosevelt bolted and formed the Progressive party, or Bull Moose party. The split ticket allowed democrat Woodrow Wilson to win the election (PCGS # 8523) .
