Phillip II, as Caesar, 247-249 AD. Gold Aureus (4.73g), Rome, struck 244-246 AD. Rare!! Draped, bareheaded bust right. Reverse: Philip in military attire standing left, holding globe and spear; PRINCIPI IVVENT. Calico RIC 218 var. (standard instead of spear, although illustration that of spear); C. 46. Well centered on spacious flan, with crisp, fine portrait. With residual luster. A very fine example of an emperor little seen these days. Some trivial light cleaning years ago. Extremely Fine.
