Lot 1678

1838-O Liberty Seated Half Dime. No stars. NGC graded MS-63. Well struck with gray toning. A few obverse marks visable with a 5X glass. A semi-prooflike example of this important first-year of issue from New Orleans, with choice luster that graces the well toned surfaces. Nicely struck for the date, indeed, about as fine as this O-mint No Stars Type is ever found. Christian Gobrecht would have loved this one! He was the mastermind behind the delicate design of Liberty and the clever use of a plain field to simulate a rare cameo jewel. Low mintage of 70,000. Pop 3; 3 in 64, 1 in 65.
Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,500.

Realized $8,050
