1869-S Liberty Seated Dime. AU-50 Ahwash-1, High Rarity 6. Rev. has pebbly die. Rare issue! Again, the mintage was not tiny but most of these early S-mint dimes did not survive the American West's development. Ahwash-1 (he rated this variety High R6). Details of MS63, but struck from a pebbly reverse die, and yet the mintmark and all design elements are nice and sharp. Ex Kam Ahwash, ex Stack's sales of 6-86 Wood lot 561; and 5-90 lot 371, both times as "BU." Also ex Essex Institute Sale, 2-75 lot 521. One of the highest grade pieces available, and a true collecting opportunity for the collector of Western Americana or seated Liberty dimes.
