Lot 1496

1793 Flowing Hair Half Cent. Bent cap, type 1. PCGS graded C-3. EF-40 Brown. A lovely problem-free example on a nice clean planchet. The buyer of this attractive 1793 will be doing cartwheel or dancing on a tabletop once it becomes a part of the collection, for it has excellent color, surfaces, great detail in Liberty's hair, and no problems whatsoever. A blend of shades of brown can be seen on both sides, with deep "black coffee" for the fields and the fields a slightly different shade including some steel color. The strike on many 1793s is somewhat spongy on the reverse to the point, often, where the denomination no longer shows. However' this coin's reverse, like the obverse, is definitely bold and full featured. There is a bit of old gray verdigris along the reverse rim to the right of the 1/200 fraction. First year of issue; a key one-year type, and only 35,334 minted. Pop 24. (PCGS # 1000) .

Usual die state, the only one described by Ron Manley in his work on half cent die states. These dies were both used in other die marriages, the obverse later muled to make Cohen-4, the reverse used earlier in the Cohen-2 marriage.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 14,000.

Realized $20,125
