Lot 1236

Great Britain. Two Pound Patterns of Obverse and Reverse, 1828. George IV, 1820-1830. Uniface strikings. Obverse and reverse, patterns in darken copper, undated but must be 1828 because of the edge inscription (ANNO REGNI NONO). By William Wyon after Chantrey's model, reverse by Johann B. Merlen. The pieces remain a mystery because no Two Pound coin was produced for George IV after 1826, although Sovereigns bearing the same portrait and design were produced until the time of the King's death in 1830. probably a unique pair, and an intriguing part of Georgian numismatic history. NGC graded Obverse, MS-62 Brown, and the reverse NGC graded MS 61 Brown.
Estimated Value $1,700 - 2,000.

Realized $1,920
