Typed Letter Signed on The New Yorker letterhead, 1p, 10¼x7", New York City, 3 Nov. 1946. Fine; three holograph corrections. To a Mr. Wells, defending his use of the word "Chinaman" in "The Wild Flag." About the derogatory connotation, he writes, "I think the odor will disappear from the word when the mist rises from our state of mind…."
