Captain Hall: Travels in North America. 2 Vols, published by Carey Lea & Cary, Philadelphia, 1829. Written by a British Royal Navy Captain, discussing his observations on various subjects, including the "wretched state" of the U.S. military, admiration of Benjamin Franklin and a visit to his grave, a description of Philadelphia, and of the slave owners and slaves whom he saw in Virginia. Both volumes have the original slate-blue boards (some wear) with professionally rebound spines and new title plates; normal rough-cut pages of the period.
