Grant, Ulysses S (1822-85) 18th President of the United States (1869-77); Union general. Autograph Telegram Signed "U.S. Grant" on a Western Union form, 5¼x8", n.p., 11 Jan. 1882. Grant wrote, "To Gen. P.H. Sheridan, Chicago Ill. Whem may we expect you & Mrs. Sheridan?" Very good; overall age yellowing; partial fold splits at lower edge; upper right corner missing, affecting nothing. The Sheridans were probably going to visit the Grants in New York City, where they had moved in 1881. A communication between two of the major figures in the Union victory.
