Lot 780

1920. NGC graded MS-65 PQ. The head is 95% full. Beautiful original toning on both sides with its multicolor shadings plus ample iridescence. The standing Liberty design was featured on quarter dollars for 15 short years. Struck from 1916 thru 1930, the design was abruptly changed when congress passed legislation creating a new Washington portrait coin. Although the 1932 Washington design was meant to be a one-year issue commemorating the 200th anniversary of the First President's birth, the standing Liberty design never made it back into production. Instead the Washington design continues on to the present.

A little incuse "M" can be found on the obverse nestled up against the lower right hand star. This denotes the coin's designer, a Mr. Hermon MacNeil. Hermon (with an "o") would have been proud of this gemmy full head 1920 were he to see it offered in this sale catalog! (PCGS # 5734) .
Estimated Value $800 - 900.

Realized $891
