Byzantine Empire. Andronicus II, 1282-1328 AD. Gold Hyperpyron (4.41 g), Constantinople, struck c. 1282-1295 AD. Bust of Virgin within multi-towered city walls. Reverse: Andronicus kneeling before Christ on right. SBC 2326. Usual areas of flat striking, but overall an exceptional example, equal to or perhaps a bit better than the coin illustrated in Sear's Byzantine Coins. Details sharp and highly lustrous. Trivial edge graffiti on obverse. Choice Extremely Fine.
