Byzantine Empire. Constans II, 641-668 AD. Gold Solidus (4.41 g), Constantinople, struck c. 651-654 AD. Facing crowned bust with long beard, holding globus cruciger. Reverse: Cross Potent on three steps. SBC 956; D.O.C. 19. Some peripheral weakness on one side, otherwise sharp and lustrous. Interestingly, the obverse die seems to have become rusted and perhaps worn, and then was re-worked. About Extremely Fine.
