Lot 1837

1886-O Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-64 PQ. Old holder. Well struck and white. A wonderful coin. It bears repeating for those who are new to silver dollar collectinig, this is a date that is rather easily located in worn and subsidiary Uncirculated grades. And yet, the 1886-O is among the more important condition rarities in the Morgan Dollar series above the MS62 level of preservation and almost unapproachable above MS64. Nicely preserved, the surfaces are lustrous with swirling cartwheel effects. The strike is much sharper, too, for an O-mint issue, and only one or two haircurls over Liberty's ear are ill-defined. The number of distracting abrasions is minimal, the surfaces are gleaming, attractive, iridescent. Pop 90 with 1 in MS-64 star and 1 in MS-66 (PCGS # 7168) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.
