Lot 1606

1795. 3 leaves beneath each wing. VF-35. Mostly untoned. Minor hairlines. This is the distinctive BB-27, B-5 variety with its short raised die line to the left of the topmost curl behind Liberty. A pleasing smooth example whose rims are choice, centers show typical flat striking (the relief on several of these 1795 flowing hair dollars was much to high for proper striking). On the reverse, the light crisscross pattern of lines is from planchet adjustment. It is found on just about every 1795 silver dollar to one extent or another. In this instance, it isn't all that obvious and therefore leaves the eagle full play to take center stage on this side of the coin.
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,500.
