Lot 446

Bogart, Humphrey - Carved Briar Pipe. Brown carved pipe, 5½" long, engraved "Capitano / Italy." It was obtained from the belongings of Verita Peterson Thompson, Bogie's long-time hairdresser and toupee maker. She claimed that she had a long-term affair with Bogie, from 1942-1951, and wrote a book, Bogie and Me, about their relationship. The bowl of the pipe still smells of pipe tobacco and the mouthpiece shows teethmarks and quite a bit of wear. Since Bogie died of lung cancer, this is a very personal memento. With a certificate of authenticity from Richard Wilson of Norma's Jeans.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.
