Clark, George Rogers (1752-1818) American Revolutionary soldier and frontier leader. Autograph Document Signed "G R Clark," 1½"x6", n.p., n.d. Fine. To Mr. James Brevard: "Let Mr. Andw. Here have one hundred & Twenty weight of Flower, part of that…from you by Mr. Wm Payne." Matted with an engraving of Clark to an overall size of 15"x13½". Ready for framing and display. With the approval of Virginia governor Patrick Henry, Clark led an expedition to conquer the Northwest; his capture of Kaskaskia, Cahokia, and Vincennes (1778) saved Illinois and Kentucky for the Colonies. He fought the British and the Indians (1779-1783) to hold this territory. He was promoted to brigadier general in 1780.
