Biddle, Clement (1740-1814) American general; the "Quaker Soldier," a close personal friend of George Washington's and one of his best officers. Autograph Letter Signed, 1p, 9¼"x8", 1799 Sept. 9. Very good. To George Simpson, Cashier of the Bank of the United States, enclosing a note and letter (not present) from Mr. John Wright, with instructions to pay Mr. Wright's note. At lower left is "For Discount for Clement Biddle," making the letter signed twice.
