Lot 861

1840-O $5 Liberty. NGC graded AU-55. A well struck example with lots of sharp detail. Struck in honey color gold with golden-orange overtones and matte like surfaces. An unsung rarity among early Liberty half eagles, and despite its higher mintage compared to the Charlotte and Dahlonega issues of the date, is just as rare, particularly in such high grade. NGC reports 14 at this level with 27 better.
Estimated Value $1,800 - 2,000.

Realized $2,128
