Lot 763

1843-C $2.50 Liberty. Small date, crosslet 4. Sharpness of MS-60 plus. A splendid example of one of the rarest and most interesting $2.50 in the series. "Interesting" because of the die bulge at the point of the bust as struck and always seen on this variety. This bulge was probably the reason the die was retired after only 2,988 were coined. Boldly struck with flashy semi reflective surfaces that tend to accentuate some hairlines and minor marks. A delightful little jewel in honey color gold with a slight greenish cast. A very rare coin that sits high within the condition census (PCGS # 7729) .
Estimated Value $16,000 - 18,000.
