Lot 740

1849-C $1 Gold Liberty. Closed wreath. NGC graded AU-58. This is quite a pleasant example of a very rare coin. There is just the slightest softness in the hair curls above the ear, otherwise very nicely struck. The reverse is sharp with a bold mintmark and the overall color is medium yellow gold with some attractive old russet toning. The recorded mintage of 11,634 includes both the open and closed wreath varieties. Breen-6008, "Usually VF or worse; prohibitively rare choice." Pop 17 with 23 finer.
Estimated Value $3,400 - 3,800.

Realized $3,795
