Lot 3280

Great Britain. Kings Norton bronze penny, 1918. George V. S-4053 (lists for £675 in "Unc"). A peculiar and very rare World War One emergency issue, in which the Kings Norton Metal Co., Ltd., assisted the Royal Mint in making pennies. The nation's thoughts were far, far away in the trenches of France, at this time, and virtually none of these tiny-hallmarked coins were noticed or saved from use. This lovely coin is sharper than most though fuzzy in strike, typical of its ilk. Clashed dies. Diebreak all across the king's face. Only tiny marks, and few. Pleasing brownish red surfaces. One of the finest known? NGC graded MS-64 Brown.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,250.
The Cheshire Collection.

Realized $1,150
