Lot 3130

Great Britain. Proof bronze Halfpenny, 1880. Victoria Bun Head. S-3956 for type but, again, not listed as a Proof. Peck however knows it: P-1828 (Extremely Rare). Freeman-341 as R19 (2-5 known). EMC-2083 as R6. Not since the Norweb Collection sale of the mid-1980s has such a nice group of bronze Proofs appeared on the market. Unlike Norweb, where quality varied widely, the Cheshire Proofs are consistently of high quality. This is a deep reddish Gem with reflective mirrors lightly toned with mauve and iridescent blue hues. Peck knew of only one specimen, the Fred Baldwin coin, which passed to the Nicholson Collection; this coin. A seldom-found opportunity to own a magnificent bronze rarity! NGC graded Proof 66 Red & Brown.
Estimated Value $1,750 - 2,000.
The Cheshire Collection.
