Lot 2618

Great Britain. Silver Sixpence, 1826. George IV Bare Head. S-3815. Despite very modest Spink price-guide values, coins of this style are exceedingly difficult to find in Gem condition. Truly Uncirculated ones, as well, are tough to find, as most seen in the UK and elsewhere, and advertised as "Unc." or better, are not really. Few pieces come on the market in really superior conditions. This coin is quite pleasing, is really Uncirculated, has a sharp strike on the lion's nose (usually soft), and has handsome silvery gray, slightly iridescent toning. All obverse letters and digits are double-cut or ghosted, which is common on these. The design is a classic of the early 19th century, the age of the Romantics! NGC graded MS-63.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.
The Cheshire Collection.
