Lot 2502

Great Britain. Pattern copper Farthing, 1798. George III. P-1204. Early Soho issue. Engraved by Kuchler. Very scarce. The classic predecessor to the issued currency coin of 1799, which appeared without the large raised border used on the penny and twopence coins, the legends incuse thereon, on both sides on this pattern. NGC grade seems a bit conservative as the surfaces are very choice indeed, a lovely medium brown with ancient blue iridescence inside the incuse letters and digits and also surrounding the portrait and Britannia and running along the inner circles' rims. This to the cataloguer enhances the eye appeal of this beauty! NGC graded Proof 63 Brown.
Estimated Value $700 - 850.
The Cheshire Collection.
