Lot 1935

Russia. Alexander I (1777-1825). Son of Paul I and grandson of Catherine the Great. Alexander alternately befriended and fought Napoleon I, but ultimately helped to defeat him. He took part in the Congress of Vienna. His attemps to institute liberal reforms were hindered by the resistance of the Russian nobility and the later years of his reign were marked by popular discontent.

Imperial Decree Signed as Czar of Russia, March 28, 1825, Saint Petersburg, 1 page, 12½ x 7½ in. In Russian, to the Chapter of Russian Orders, commanding that the medals and document of the order of Saint Vladimir, 4th class, be presented to Senior Surveyor of Mines 7th class Grigoriy Spasskiy, on whom the czar has bestowed the title of Cavalier. Pencilled notes at lower edge of document, else very fine. With translation.
