Lot 1795

Russia. Novodel 'Sun' Ruble, 1724-SPB. Bitkin-H668; Diakov-194,N; Sev-Unlisted; Uzd-0619. Peter I. Well struck, though obviously from lapped dies used for novodels, as the highest points mostly on the reverse are slightly rounded as struck. The obverse is well struck with a bold portrait and clear uniform details. The excellent surfaces are attractively toned in light silvery gray. Both Bitkin and Diakov used photos of this coin for their books. Extremely Rare and missing from all published major Russian collections. Rated R3 with 4 to 9 pieces estimated to exist, though likely the lower number would apply to this type, if even that many! PCGS graded AU-50.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 15,000.
The Dr. Robert D. Hesselgesser Collection, Ex Goodman Collection, 1991, lot 81.

Realized $15,525
