Lot 1770

Russia. Novodel Ruble, 1720. Bitkin-H233 (this is the photo coin); Sev-Unlisted. Reeded edge. Peter I. This is an exceptional example of a Peter the Great rouble and certainly one of the finest in the Hesselgesser Collection. The strike and surfaces are superb and are further enhanced by lovely old toning. The bust is beautifully modeled in high relief with Peter shown in perhaps the most regal and statesmanlike of the many portrayals on his roubles. The eagle on the reverse is equally attractive with the feathers nicely contrasted by the delicate toning. Rated R3, with only 4 to 9 specimen estimated to exist. Of those known, we doubt that any will be this choice. Extremely rare. PCGS graded MS-63.
Estimated Value $25,000 - 30,000.
The Dr. Robert D. Hesselgesser Collection.

Realized $24,150
