1918-D Buffalo Nickel. 8 over 7. PCGS graded MS-64. The 1918/7-D is the most treasured coin in the Buffalo Nickel series. This is a spectacular example, well struck with a sharp clear overdate including separation of the horn and tail; all, beautifully toned. The satiny lustrous surfaces exhibit lovely shades of lilac and light golden sunset toning. The number of Mint State coins in existence is mostly a matter of conjecture, but its safe to assume that approximately two dozen coins remain at that level. Although the PCGS report states 25 in this grade with only 2 better by a point, we suspect this number includes numerous re-submissions of the same coin. It is indeed an important numismatic event when a choice Mint State example of this coveted rarity appears on the market (PCGS # 3939) .
Estimated Value $90,000 - 100,000.
