1879-O $20 Liberty. SEGS graded AU-58 Saltwater Surfaces. Reasonably well struck with subdue matte-like surfaces which are slightly rough due to the saltwater action. Traces of mint luster remain in the protected areas and overall, a most desirable example of this important date. Our conservative grade is AU-50. Only 2325 pieces were struck and the last coin of this denomination struck at New Orleans. When comparing mintages, only the 1856-0 registers a lower number. The appearance of an 1879-0 at auction is an important numismatic event (PCGS # 8990) .
