Lot 1521

Pickford, Mary. Original vintage 16 x 13 in. photograph by Edwin Bower Hesser (no attribution on photo). A seated portrait of the Canadian-born actress whose film career began in 1907. Lower left corner is lacking, and there are a few tiny scratches in the emulsion on the left side, only one of which is noticeable on the skirt of her dress; otherwise, a beautiful image. An astute business person, she was the first actress to produce her own films and the first actor or actress to get a percentage of the profits of her films. In 1919, she co-founded United Artists with Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., whom she married in 1920. This photo has been in storage for 40+ years, since Hesser's death.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Realized $546
