Dove, Billy (1903-1997) Silent screen star who started in the Ziegfeld Follies; called "The American Beauty." Original vintage 16¼ x 13¼ photograph by Edwin Bower Hesser, c. 1920s, signed by the photographer in the plate at lower right. A stunning, sepia-toned, head and shoulders portrait. Minor edge flaws and area of solarization. Supposedly Billie Holiday changed her first name from Eleanora to Billie, out of admiration for the beauteous Billy Dove. This photo has been in storage for 40+ years, since Hesser's death.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Realized $265
