Lot 2180

1914 $2.50 Gold Indian. NGC graded Proof 68. A second awesome proof Indian Head quarter eagle ! Again, a sandblast finish is noted on this issue. Walter Breen noted that the 1914 comes with a slightly coarser finish than the 1913 issue and often will appear a shade darker. What better way for our bidders to compare the two issues than by having two potentially Finest Known examples of both the 1913 and 1914 to place side by side for study! The slightly coarser surfaces of this superb 1914 are much more noticeable than the minute difference in coloration between the previous lot and the present lot. The luster on this 1914 proof is outstanding and much more radiant than often seen on any proof gold of this type. The only mark mentionable, solely for the purpose of future pedigree research, is a microscopic black spot right star 9 near the rim. Unquestionably one of the finest in existence and tied for finest known with only 4 others at NGC.
Estimated Value $30,000 - 35,000.

Realized $36,800
