Lot 1220

1838 Capped Bust Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. An impressive reeded edge example with a full strike and pure white appearance. The only spot of color is a small toning spot near the lower portion of the eagle's right wing. A shallow scuff exists just right of the chin and a small planchet flake is the field, left of stars 9-10 (useful for identifying this piece). For someone searching for this type, the present near-gem specimen should be considered strongly! With gem specimens significantly more expensive, this choice near-gem offers a good buying opportunity. PCGS population of 26 in MS-64, 7 in MS-65 and 1 in MS-66 (PCGS # 6177) .
Estimated Value $2,700 - 3,000.
